Israel Destroys 428 Homes in South Lebanon Over Past Three Days
The alarming figures were disclosed during the official launch of a "strategic framework for environmental recovery after the war," where council officials presented a comprehensive damage assessment to attendees.
Beyond the demolished units, an additional 50 homes sustained structural damage during the same three-day period, the council confirmed. The data also captured the broader toll of the 46-day Israeli military campaign that preceded the ceasefire: 17,756 residential units were entirely wiped out, with a further 32,668 left partially damaged.
Meanwhile, Lebanon's official news agency reported that Israeli forces have continued to systematically demolish and detonate homes in several towns still under their occupation in the country's south — raising further questions about Israeli compliance with the truce terms.
Since March 2, Israeli operations across Lebanon have killed 2,454 people, injured 7,658 others, and forced more than one million residents from their homes, according to official tallies.
Against this volatile backdrop, diplomatic momentum appears to be building. Lebanon and Israel convened ambassadorial-level discussions in Washington on April 15 — their first such engagement in 43 years. A second round of negotiations is scheduled to take place in the U.S. capital on Thursday, a senior Lebanese official told media.
